Dmitry Ablogin, born in Moscow, is regarded as one of the most brilliant and creative keyboard artists of his generation. The Frankfurter Rundschau credits him with the 'Abloginian fine articulation.'
He began learning piano and composition at the age of five under Tamara Mezlumova and made his orchestral debut at nine, performing Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major. He then studied under Kira Shashkina at the Central Music School before joining Vladimir Tropp's class at the Gnessin Academy of Music, graduating with honors in 2012. He subsequently moved to Germany to specialize in period instruments and historical performance under Jesper Bøje Christensen.
He gained international attention through his success at the International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments in Warsaw in 2018. Further prizes followed at the Nikolai Rubinstein Competition in Paris, the Vera Lotar-Shevchenko Competition in Novosibirsk, the German Piano Open in Hanover, and Musica Antiqua in Bruges. In 2021 he won the 10th International German Pianist Award and made his debut at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.
Dmitry Ablogin performs in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Cologne Philharmonie, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vienna Konzerthaus, Salle Cortot in Paris, Edinburgh Queen's Hall, and Glasgow City Halls. As a soloist he has appeared with the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and the Nuremberg Symphony, among others.
He is deeply engaged in chamber music, collaborating with artists including violinist Alena Baeva, cellist Anastasia Kobekina, soprano Kateryna Kasper, the Eliot Quartett, and the Henschel Quartett.
His discography includes a double album of Beethoven's Diabelli Variations (Organum Classics), recorded on both a modern Fazioli concert grand and an 1825 fortepiano by Nannette Streicher — honored as Album of the Week by BR-Klassik. His most recent album, released in 2023 by the Chopin Institute, features a selection of Chopin's late works recorded on Chopin's very last instrument, a Pleyel Fortepiano No. 14810.
Since October 2024, Dmitry Ablogin has been Professor of Fortepiano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
