Shengzhi Guo
Solo Cellist
Shengzhi Guo was born in China's Hunan Province and began his studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1995, graduating in 2001. He then studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in the class of Prof. Maria Kliegel. He attended masterclasses with Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalya Shakhovskaya, Laurence Lesser, Janos Starker, and Mischa Maisky.
The cellist is a prize winner of numerous competitions. In 2008, he won first prize at the Chamber Music Competition of German Music Universities, and in 2013, second prize and the special prize for the best Janáček interpretation at the International Janáček Competition in Brno.
A special focus of his work is chamber music. His prominent chamber music partners include Ida Bieler, Kolja Blacher, Yuja Wang, and Tianwa Yang.
Shengzhi Guo has been Solo Cellist of the Münster Symphony Orchestra since 2016.
